Few examples for this one would be
1) show me all the bars within 5 miles radius which has happy hours at the current time.
2) give me all the stores around me which has discounts going on.

3) show all the restaurants which has deals going on like 1 drink free on a burrito

That's a brilliant idea. I think it would certainly be something I would use

Definitely an app I would use when I am walking around in downtown. There's always so many options that it would be great to have an app that would show me where all the great deals are.

Just wanted to clarify ... This is not an app for selling coupons ...just shows deals around you. There is no middle man involved in it. Hence protecting the store/restaurants owners as well.

urbandaddy doesn't show you deals based on your current location and time.

groupon now works pretty well in my opinion to show local deals based on gps in certain timeframes, but it doesn't show all the happy hours/self promoted specials

@Stephen - There is a big difference in what Groupon does and what this app can provide.
Groupon does not protect small business owners ...as we have seen lot of them going out of business recently because they couldn't fulfill the coupons.

This app does not sell any coupons like Groupon does. Direct business owner sell the local deals on the spot themselves. Like you said this is mainly to show self promotions/deals that shop owners are comfortable in selling and they are not paying any third party to sell their deals to the customers. They are selling it themselves.

yeah it makes sense, when I walk around in a mall I do want to know which places are offering deals/sales so that I don't have to wander around looking for those.

Not to be a downer, but this is already somewhat being done by Scoutmob. Also, I'd rather they or some other non-gov related organization create this type of app and do it well... whereas bigapps is an opportunity for us to touch an area that can only be done so with the gov's support.

I checked out Scoutmob and they seems to do the same thing what groupon does ..The reason a non private company should do this is because lot of small businees owners are actually going out of business because of the middle man involved and only govt compnies can now protect them while helping them to increase their customer market here. I hope that answers your questions to why would company like bigapple should build this application.
